Since launching our State of Business Aviation 2025 eBook earlier this year, we’ve been committed to keeping the conversation going. The industry is evolving fast and staying ahead means continuing to explore the ideas, challenges and opportunities raised in the eBook.

To deepen the dialogue, we’re joined by Chris Bigwood, Connectivity Sales Manager at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies and newly appointed co-chair of the Isle of Man Aviation Conference 2026. Chris brings a fresh perspective on sustainability, one of the most urgent and exciting topics shaping the future of aviation.

Make energy great again highlights a critical moment for the industry as it faces growing pressure to address its environmental impact. With aviation emissions poised to triple by 2050 without intervention, this underscores the urgency of adopting sustainable practices.

 

While some companies, like ADNOC and BP, are retreating from green initiatives and others like LEGO are investing heavily in sustainability, even at a financial cost, business aviation finds itself in the middle, still deciding its path but the momentum behind sustainability as a ‘megatrend’ is undeniable.

 

The development of more efficient APUs and advancement of SAF technologies by engine manufacturers is a promising step forward. We must caution against short term fixes such as replacing APUs with ground power, which may not yield net environmental benefits when fossil fuel based electricity is considered. Instead, we must advocate for smarter investments in SAF production, air traffic management improvements and AI-driven fuel optimisation platforms  – all of which offer meaningful emissions reductions.

 

Ultimately, we should make it clear that business aviation must embrace innovation and sustainability to remain viable. Regulatory pressures, shifting consumer expectations, and geopolitical dynamics are reshaping the landscape. The tools for transformation are available, and the industry must now choose a future that aligns with the scientific consensus: climate change is human driven and aviation must be part of the solution to ensure the health of our planet and the survival of future generations.
